Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President:Hitoshi Ochi) hasacquired Dutch Filaments B.V. (Head office: Helmond, the Netherlands; CEO:Richard Luiken), a leading manufacturer of 3D printing filaments in Europe via wholly owned Mitsubishi Chemical Performance Polymers Europe B.V., a regional headquarters for its performance polymers business in Europe, on 1st of March.

Dutch Filaments started their operations in 2014 and has quickly developed to be one of the major global players in producing polymer-based filaments for the 3D printing industry. They have a wide range of customized high-quality filaments based on their technologies and know-hows in manufacturing and material design. The new site with over 70 employees in the Netherlands will strengthen Mitsubishi Chemical Performance Polymers businesses as a supplier of materials in the innovative sector of 3D printing.

3D printing technology which manufactures products from digital data, not only greatly reduces converting process and assembly, but also makes it possible to manufacture complex designed products that cannot be produced by existing plastics molding technologies. 3D printing technology provides significant opportunities to change the existing business model for market segments such as automotive, aerospace, medical and other fields.

Mitsubishi Chemical has added polymer-based filaments for 3D printing to its performance polymers business portfolio through this acquisition. It will also advance its strategy on performance polymers and other materials across Mitsubishi Chemical group, based on technologies and networks that Dutch Filaments has been building, and further expand 3D printing related businesses.
