AN ENVIRONMENTAL APPROACH COMMITTED FOR 3 YEARS

For several years, the organizing committee of the Nantes Marathon has paid particular attention to reducing its carbon footprint on the environment. At each edition, since 2014, more than 40m3 of waste has been recovered and recycled. In 2018, we want to go further in this ecological approach.
The Marathon de Nantes is committed to protecting our environment !

NO MORE PLASTIC BOTTLES and OPTIMIZED WATER CONSUMPTION

To avoid finding small bottles scattered all over the course, in the ditches, the Loire or the Erdre rivers, and avoid waste (water and plastic) the Marathon de Nantes has always made the choice to put cups on refueling rather than bottles. And assume it to protect our planet.

FRENCH ENERGY TRANSITION ACT - January 2020

To continue to reduce the impact of the event on the environment, on the next edition the traditional cups will be replaced by cardboard cups with lamination BioPBS biosourced material, 100% biodegradable compost.

This approach anticipates the ban on the use of conventional plastic disposable cups (polypropylene or polystyrene) from 1 January 2020 in France (energy transition law). Thanks to their BioPBS sealing film, the new generation cardboard cups used by the Marathon de Nantes provide an answer in line with these environmental challenges.

BioPBS™ PAPER CUPS, WILL BE AS COMPOST AFTER 3 MOIS

More than 100,000 BioPBS cups will be supplied by PTTMCC Biochem, the manufacturer of BioPBS. They will be collected by volunteers on D-Day and then composted (once crushed) by Baugeois Compost in Cheviré-le-Rouge (Maine et Loire), for whom the biodegradability test was carried out with the BioPBS ™ cups collected during the last Audencia Triathlon. the Baule.

The cups will degrade completely in less than 3 months to become compost. This compost will then be sold to individuals, garden centers, communities or other professionals.

Thus, BioPBS technology for coating food packaging is a future solution to reduce the impact of sporting events on the environment.
